Expert: Found Human Remains That Of Male

Complete Identification Still Pending

POSTED: 7:56 am EST March 9, 2010

Police said an expert believes human remains found near a state hospital in eastern Indiana had been there at least two years.

Two people who were riding off-road vehicles found the bones on Friday in an area bordered by Richmond State Hospital and the Wayne County Fairgrounds.

Richmond police Lt. Brad Berner said a forensic anthropologist from the University of Indianapolis visited the site over the weekend and didn't find any signs of foul play.

Berner said initial tests indicated the remains were those of a white man older than 50, but wasn't sure when a positive identification might be made.

Richmond is about 70 miles east of Indianapolis.
