LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- A judge has rejected a former Purdue University student's plea in the fatal shooting of a friend during an alcohol-fueled prank at an off-campus apartment.William J. Calderon, 22, of Fort Wayne, had pleaded guilty in January to a misdemeanor charge of pointing a firearm. But a Tippecanoe Superior Court judge rejected the plea Tuesday, saying he believed the charges and plea were too lenient.Calderon was charged in the August 2009 death of Landon Siela, 21, of Fort Wayne, who was killed when Calderon's roommate, Cory Lynch, fired Calderon's .45-caliber handgun at Siela.Calderon acknowledged under questioning from the judge that he knew the gun was loaded.Lynch was sentenced last week to two years of community corrections and one year of supervised probation.
