Ad Deemed Too Racy For Lucas Oil Stadium

CIB Rejects Putting Axe Deodorant Ad In Stadium

Hoosiers have a mixed reaction to an ad that was deemed inappropriate to be used in Lucas Oil Stadium.

The advertisement for Axe Deodorant holds the dubious distinction of being the only ad to be rejected in the stadium's history.

The Indianapolis Business Journal reported earlier this week that the Capital Improvement Board declined to allow the ad in a meeting on Monday.

The Indianapolis Colts' lease agreement includes a provision that any permanent signage in the stadium must have the approval of the CIB.

The ad has a picture of a stick of the deodorant with water below it surging straight up through the tube, with the words "Girls Prefer Dry Guys," scrawled across the middle of the picture. The ad would have been placed outside the men's restroom.

"I'm not sure I know how to take it," said Kim Somermeyer. "I could read it one of two ways. One would be OK. The other would be, 'That doesn't seem quite right.'"

Some, including Jeff Hayse, contend that the ad is sexually suggestive, saying he wouldn't want to see the ad in a public place, "especially with my son, 11 years old."

Others think the ad is tame compared to some things on television and in print elsewhere.

"That's just insane," said Jamie Adams. "I've seen commercials that look like that with the deodorant flashing out of the water."
