GAS PRICES

Gas Prices Soar In Central Indiana

Prices Expected To Go Higher In Coming Months

POSTED: 7:46 am EST March 10, 2010

Gas prices began creeping upward again this week across Indiana as experts predicted prices of more than $3 a gallon this summer.

According to AAA, the average price nationally for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.77.

Indiana's prices are well below average at $2.69 a gallon. Real-time prices in the Indianapolis area were hovering at about $2.75 a gallon on Wednesday morning.

There are several factors at play, including the switch to a summer blend of fuel, oil prices above $80 a gallon and increased demand.

This time last year, prices had dipped below $2 a gallon in central Indiana. Hoosiers are worried that more increases are inevitable.

"Everybody's got to get back and forth to work," said one motorist. "It's just a shame the gas price is up so high."

"It's already getting really bad. Everything is going up," another driver said.
