BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- An Indiana University student found unconscious on a Bloomington quad early Thursday told police she believes she was sexually assaulted. The woman was found partially clothed with bruises on her body on the north side of Foster McGee quad at 1000 N. Fee Lane just before 3:30 a.m., said IU Police Lt. Craig Munroe. She was transported to Bloomington Hospital where she told officers that she believed she had been sexually assaulted. She said she didn't know where it happened or the identity of her attacker, but Munroe said it's believed the woman knew the person.Students who live in the nearby dorm said they were concerned about safety."It's pretty creepy. I mean, we live in this building so kind of scary," said IU Student Kara Brothers."I would say IU is pretty safe. I don't feel like it's not a safe place to be most of the time," said IU Student Abby Rhodes. "I was really surprised when I heard about this."Munroe said police have a person of interest in the alleged attack, but are in the early stages of the investigation. He urged members of the campus community to be vigilant."We do the best we can to ensure that everyone can attend school, work here and visit a safe environment," he said. "It's a good idea to tell someone where you're going, when you'll be back. Take someone with you. That's real important."Police asked anyone with information to contact campus police at 812-855-4111 and ask to speak to an investigator or shift commander. More information and services for victims of sexual assaultcan be found on the school's Web site.
