Man Wanted In Crime Spree Arrested

Police: Man Suspected In Violent Robberies

A man suspected in a series of violent crimes in the Plainfield area was arrested Thursday after police received an anonymous tip.

Indianapolis and Plainfield officers found Jason Currens, 37, in an Indianapolis home Thursday afternoon, said Plainfield Lt. Jill Lees.

Police said Currens and another man at first refused to come out of the home. An Indianapolis K9 officer was sent into the house, and Currens was arrested a short time later, Lees said.

Police said Currens is suspected in the recent robbery of a Circle S gas station on U.S. 40 near downtown Plainfield, during which, police said, he used a hammer to threaten a store clerk before taking off with cash.

A homeowner told 6News' Rick Hightower that Currens recently stole all of her credit cards and cash and fled.

Police said he then went down the street and threatened an 85-year-old woman, bursting into her home with a hammer and robbing her of cash, jewelry and other items.

Currens was also involved in cases of forgery, fraud and other offenses, police said.

He was transported to Wishard Memorial Hospital for treatment of dog bites, before being taken to the Marion County Jail.
