Police: Boy Brought Gun To School, Threatened Classmate

Boys Involved In Previous Altercation, Police Say

POSTED: 11:39 am EDT March 22, 2010

A 15-year-old boy brought an unloaded handgun to Highland High School on Monday and used it to threaten another boy, police said.

Anderson police were called to the school at about 7 a.m. Detective Mitch Carroll said no one was injured in the incident and that the boys were separated before they got to the school.

"Police and school authorities found the semiautomatic handgun in a student's locker," Carroll said.

Police said the dispute began over a cell phone that one boy alleged was taken last week.

The boy had the gun with him on the bus and threatened the other boy before giving the gun to another student, Carroll said.

Carroll said the boy would likely be charged as a juvenile with carrying a handgun on school property and intimidation. Two more students who helped hide the gun could also face charges.
