INDIANAPOLIS -- As an indoor theme park where a boy was critically injured prepares to reopen, a former worker said he tried to warn state inspectors of safety issues.Denzel Jennings, 5, remained in critical condition Wednesday after he was injured Friday night when he fell from the tea cup ride at Xscape in Indianapolis' Lafayette Square Mall. The facility was shut down Tuesday after that ride and three others failed inspection, and it was discovered that the facility did not have a required amusement and entertainment permit, 6News' Rafael Sanchez reported.Indiana State Fire Marshal Jim Greeson said Wednesday that inspectors determined there was nothing wrong with the tea cup ride that would have caused Jennings to be injured.Tyauwn Stricklen, who performed maintenance on rides at Xscape, told Sanchez that his calls to a state hot line weeks ago about potential ride safety issues were ignored."I let them know that somebody was going to get hurt, hoping that they would get back to me," he said. "I let them know it's unsafe for anyone to ride those rides."Stricklen is in a labor dispute with the business, but his phone records show that he called the hot line on Feb. 11 and March 5, and Greeson confirmed that his messages were received, but not acted upon."Obviously, somewhere along the line, someone miscommunicated, did not listen to the recording or did not follow up and make a call back," he said. "Had we listened to the messages ... we would have sent someone out there. We don't know if that would have prevented the injury of this young man."Xscape has re-filed for its permits and may reopen this week, but it could still face a fine of up to $250 per day for failure to have a valid permit.Zoom Entertainment, which operates Xscape, issued a statement on Wednesday about the Friday incident saying that it "cannot comment on specifics facts at this time until more details are learned as this inquiry progresses."Greeson said an internal investigation would be conducted concerning Stricklen's unanswered hot line messages.
