FRANKLIN, Ind. -- It's been nearly two years since flooding destroyed buildings across Johnson County, but the prosecutor's office still is without a permanent home. The building where the offices were once housed sustained significant damage and was later torn down, forcing Prosecutor Brad Cooper and his staff to improvise, 6News' Jennifer Carmack reported. They operated out of a parking lot, the county fair grounds and a museum before renting an office owned by Crane Naval. But now that lease is up and a credit union is moving in downstairs, forcing the staff of 18 separate offices to cram upstairs, sharing desks in some cases to make things work."We had to double up people in offices to make enough room for everyone," said office manager Michelle Murray. And another move is eminent."Once they finish downstairs, they're going to want to come upstairs to renovate, so we're going to be out of there," Cooper said.Even with all the upheaval, the prosecutor said cases haven't been compromised."It makes it difficult, but up to this time, I don't believe we've had to dismiss one single case," he said.A deal is being worked out with county commissioners to find a permanent home, with hopes of having a location finalized by Monday.
