TOPEKA, Kan. -- A Kansas judge will hear arguments Wednesday on whether to reduce bail for a woman who is accused of trying to trick an Indiana couple into believing she was their long-lost daughter.
Donna Walker's attorney, Billy Rork, filed a motion Monday seeking to reduce Walker's bail from $100,000 to $10,000. Rork unsuccessfully tried to convince a judge to lower the bail during Walker's initial court hearing Friday.
Wednesday's bail hearing in Shawnee County District Court in Topeka is set for 3 p.m. Indiana officials plan to seek Walker's extradition. However, as of Tuesday morning, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius had not received such a request. Even a routine extradition can take up to a month. Rork has said he will fight extradition and has expressed doubt that Walker (pictured, above left) committed a crime.Police say Walker, 35, falsely claimed in July she might be Shannon Sherrill, who vanished at the age of 6 while she was playing outside her mother's Thorntown, Ind., home in 1986. Walker is charged in Indiana with identity deception, a class D felony, and false reporting, a class A misdemeanor.Walker, a Topeka resident, turned herself in to authorities Thursday.
