Dog Allegedly Relieved Itself On Lawn

UPDATED: 10:45 p.m. EST August 6, 2003

A man was hospitalized Tuesday after being shot by a neighor during an argument over a dog that defecated on a lawn, police said.

Police arrested Walter Travis, 68, on an accusation that he shot Michael Culver. Police said the two began arguing after Culver's dog relieved itself on Travis' lawn in the 4100 block of West 33rd Street.

During the argument, Travis -- who lives two doors down from Culver -- pulled out a gun and shot Culver several times, police said. Culver, 41, was listed in good condition Wednesday afternoon at Wishard Memorial Hospital.

Travis told police that Culver had slapped him before the shooting.

Travis faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery and criminal recklessness. He was being held Wednesday afternoon with bail set at $10,000.
