LEBANON, Ind. -- A woman was arrested Friday on child neglect charges after she left her twin toddlers home alone while she went out drinking, police said.Jacquelyn Wood, 24, of Lebanon, was intoxicated when she arrived home, about 3½ after she had left, Boone County sheriff's Deputy Chris Burcham said.Police were called to Wood's home after the girls' grandfather, Bruce Wood, found Madilyn and Mckayla screaming in their bedroom, police said in a news release."When he got no response from the door, he broke a window on the door to gain access," Burcham said. "Mr. Wood … noticed a nylon tie down strap on the bedroom door handle that was connected to another door handle, not allowing the girls to exit their room."Wood found that the girls weren't injured but called police.Burcham said Jacquelyn Wood came home while deputies were still at the scene. She was arrested shortly thereafter."She stated her sister was to be watching the children that day," Burcham said. "After a brief investigation, we found that not to be true."The girls had no access to food or water, police said."These children were put in grave danger by being locked in that bedroom and isolated for that amount of time," said Maj. Mike Nielsen. "As serious as this was, it could have been much worse."Child Protective Services placed the twins in the custody of another family member.Wood was released from the Boone County Jail on bond Sunday and is due in court on Monday. The girls' father is working in Afghanistan but is expected to return home later this week.
