Investigators: Device That Prompted Bomb Scare Fake
Maintenance Worker Found Device, Police Say

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Investigators said Wednesday that a device that appeared to be a pipe bomb that had been left in an apartment closet was fake.Several people were evacuated from Bradford Place Collegiate Residences after a maintenance worker discovered the device at about 10:30 a.m.Bloomington Police Lt. David Drake said a maintenance worker went into an apartment closet after a tenant had moved out and found two pipes tied together with a wire coming out of it.Police, firefighters and a bomb squad from Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center were called to the scene.A robot was sent in to retrieve the device, which investigators determined was not a bomb. Investigators believe it had been left there intentionally.
