2 More Broad Ripple Attacks Prompt Concern

City's Cultural District Trouble Spot Overnight

Residents are again on alert in Broad Ripple after two violent robberies within two days.

Both victims were beaten up and left bloody. One of the men was knocked unconscious, and a gun was pointed in the face of the other man. Both men were walking alone overnight, 6News' Ericka Flye reported.

The latest robbery happened at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday at Broad Ripple and Carrolton avenues.

Police said a 23-year-old man was leaving a bar when a group of males jumped him in an alley, beat him, ripped his earring out and took his wallet.

On Monday at about 11:50 p.m., a 21-year-old man was walking home from work when he was attacked at 58th Street and College Avenue.

In that attack, a group of males jumped out of the bushes and pointed a gun, telling the man to "give me all you got," police said.

That victim's roommate told 6News that he is still shaken up.

"He was bleeding and everything. He has a really bad gash on the back of his head," Alex Diez said. "He said these guys basically just came out of nowhere, like five or six guys just pushed him on the ground and took everything out of his pockets and ran away."

The males stole the victim's iPod and credit cards before getting into a dark, compact car with a spoiler on the trunk.

The victims in both incidents said they didn't get a good look at the attackers.

Attackers have been trolling Broad Ripple overnight in recent weeks, looking for victims that they consider easy marks.

People who are walking in that area should carry as few belongings as possible and try to travel in groups, police said.
