Pursuit Ends In Crash In Fishers

FISHERS, Ind. -- Shots were fired by police during a chase that began in Carmel and ended in a crash in Fishers on Thursday night, police said.Police were alerted to a shoplifter at the Meijer store in Carmel just after 7:30 p.m., 6News' Ericka Flye reported.Officers pursued the man's truck near Main Street and Guilford Avenue, after which the man, identified as William Refkin, 60, of Indianapolis, drove onto the Woodland Country Club golf course off 116th Street, police said.As he was leaving, police said Refkin tried to run over an officer. That officer fired four shots at the truck, police said.Officers said Refkin took off on 116th Street, reaching speeds of 90 mph, before crashing near 116th Street and Legends Boulevard, east of Cumberland Road, rolling his truck."He started losing control, probably because of the speeds, and he hit a curb," said Carmel police Lt. Jeff Horner. "At that point, he started weaving back and forth and then rolled."Refkin was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he was listed in stable condition.He faces charges of theft, resisting law enforcement, criminal mischief and criminal recklessness.
