INDIANAPOLIS -- Hundreds of motorcyclists were joined by members of the clergy on Monument Circle Friday night to show support for the families of three riders plowed down by a police officer investigators said was drunk at the time.Eric Wells, 30, was killed while Kurt Weekly, 44, and Mary Mills, 47, were critically injured on Aug. 6 when they were struck from behind by the squad car of Officer David Bisard, who later registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.19 percent, police said.Friday night, supporters from across the state surrounded the Circle for the peaceful rally, gathering signatures on petitions to prosecute Bisard to the fullest extent of the law."We want justice here in Indiana for our friends," said organizer Dennis Graham. "We want change. We want it now. We demand it now."Pastors from churches across the city also joined in Friday's rally, angry over recent incidents involving Indianapolis police, including the injuries suffered by a 15-year-old biracial boy during an arrest in May."So now you have bikers and Baptists standing together tonight for a right cause," said Pastor Michael Jones. "Up until now, while people have been hurt, no one has died. Now someone's dead, and that's how these things progress. It starts with a beating, then a gun goes off and now a life has been taken."The pastors will take the petitions back to their congregations to collect more signatures before sending them to the county and state courts.Friends of Weekly said he remains in a coma. Mills was last listed in serious condition after suffering fractures to her shoulder, collarbone, ribs, pelvis, vertebrae, leg and ankle, along with severe road rash."She is severely broken. Almost every bone in her body is broken. She has so many injuries that it's unimaginable," said Mills' daughter, Aja Margerum. "It's going to be a very long road."Mills' attorneys notified the city on Thursday that they plan to sue for damages in the crash."Our intention is not for money," Margerum said. "Our intention is for justice. We want to see that this does not happen to somebody else."A friend of the two surviving victims has set up a fund to help their families. Donations can be made to the Kurt Weekly & Mary Mills Assistance Fund at any Finance Center Federal Credit Union branch.
