Police: Car Dealer Sold Vehicles He Didn't Own

Car Buyers Complained After Not Receiving Titles

A Clarksville car lot operator was arrested Wednesday, accused of selling vehicles he didn't actually own.

Jeremy T. Dixon, 34, of Salem, was preliminarily charged with theft, two counts of check fraud and 13 counts of failure to provide a title to a purchased vehicle after a state police investigation that began last month.

Police said several people complained after they bought vehicles from the Dixon Motors lot on U.S. 31 in Clarksville, but were not provided with a title.

Investigators said they later determined that Dixon didn't really own the vehicles, but had gotten the cars from auctions on lease deals or from other car dealers who arranged for delivery of the titles when they were paid in full for the vehicles.

Even though the victims had paid Dixon for the cars, they did not own them, police said.

Dixon Motors is now closed, but had been doing business since April, investigators said.

Anyone who purchased a vehicle from the lot or from Dixon and has not received a title is asked to call Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg at 800-872-6743 or 812-246-5424 and report the incident to Detective Tom Meneou.

Dixon was being held Wednesday evening at the Clark County Jail.
