INDIANAPOLIS -- Travelers from Indianapolis headed to the East Coast were trying to get to their destinations ahead of the expected wrath of Hurricane Earl churning in the Atlantic Ocean.AAA estimates that more than 34 million people will be traveling over the Labor Day holiday, and the storm couldn't come at a worse time for those headed east, 6News' Chris Pisano reported.

At Indianapolis International Airport Thursday, Southwest Airlines passengers were permitted to leave on earlier flights east, if possible."Those passengers who are wanting to go early, we are allowing them to go early at no extra charge," said Heather Butler-Barlow, of Southwest. For travelers headed to destinations from the Carolinas to New England, Earl is expected to cause a lot of headaches.Travelers on Thursday morning had no trouble getting where they want to go, but that is expected to change later in the day and into the holiday weekend."We're heading to Raleigh, N.C.," said Christina Ortell. "We called ahead this morning, and everything is as scheduled, so we are out of here.""We've been tracking it, and depending on the angle it finally takes, it could either hit Boston or miss it," said Gene Bruns, who is bound for Boston. "We're going to get there ahead of the storm, but we don't know what's going to happen after we get there."
