An Anderson woman was driving drunk, left the scene of a fatal crash, and then tried to let her brother take the blame, police said.

Marilyn Hirsch, 64, was killed Monday when she drove into the path of a pickup truck near Cross Street and Scatterfield Road, Anderson police said.

Officers were originally told by Bradley DeBord, 45, and his mother, Martha Hanshew, 71, that DeBord was driving the truck at the time.

But investigators said they later determined that DeBord's sister -- Darla D. DeBord, 45 -- was driving and was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

She was arrested Wednesday at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where she was visiting her daughter, who was also injured in the crash, police said.

Darla DeBord was preliminarily charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing a death, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury.

Police said Bradley DeBord will likely face a criminal charge of assisting a criminal, while Hanshew will face a misdemeanor charge of false informing.

"I hope this sends a resounding message. We have both a legal and morale responsibility to answer for our actions," said Anderson Police Chief Darron Sparks. "We will continue to work in union with the prosecutor's office to bring criminal charges against those who deliberately misled the investigation."
