Glass Repairman Accused Of Busting Out More Business

AG: Owner $260K Behind On Taxes

The owner of a glass replacement business charged with shorting the state $260,000 in taxes is also accused of making himself more business by vandalizing vehicles.

Tuan Anh Chu faces 17 felony charges, including theft and tax evasion, the Indiana Attorney General's Office said.

Chu operates a vehicle glass replacement company under three names -- Glass Medic, Superior Auto Glass and Independent Auto Glass -- officials said.

Chu didn't pay taxes for those businesses between 2005 and 2010, totaling about $268,000 in back taxes, the state alleged.

Investigators also allege that Chu would break out windows of vehicles and then approach the owners and offer to replace the glass.

Quality Supply and Tool had multiple vehicles vandalized in 2008. Employee Billy Muffler said he thought it was odd that Independent Auto Glass could offer same-day service.

"He had the windows in stock," he said. "Normally, it takes a week to find that exact window."

The company paid $4,000 for the repairs.

Chu has previous criminal convictions for auto theft and forgery. 6News was unable to reach Chu for comment.

The state said it is getting more aggressive in tracking down tax offenders. Since 2008, more than a half-dozen tax evaders have been prosecuted, officials said.
