Police have spent much of the week rounding up suspects in what's being called one of the biggest drug busts in Delaware County history.

Investigators said a drug arrest in northern Indiana last week led them to two Muncie apartments being rented by Ball State University's campus.

Police arrested seven suspects -- four of whom are BSU students -- in a drug ring that authorities believe supplied drugs to BSU students, RTV6's Vicki Duncan reported. The suspects face charges ranging from drug possession to trafficking.

Police said they seized a half-kilo of cocaine, 20 pounds of marijuana, 600 hits of Ecstasy, OxyContin, steroids and firearms.

"It was wide range of drugs in very significant amounts," said Mark McKinney, of the Delaware County Prosecutor's Office. "From what we've been able to gather, most of the drugs were being sold and distributed on campus."

Officials don't believe they've wiped out the drug problem in the area, but they feel they've made a pretty good dent, Duncan reported.

"The nature of the beast is, someone will be there to fill the void fairly quickly. But in the short term, this has made a significant impact on the drugs available on campus, no question about it," McKinney said.

Investigators are working with agents with Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms because they believe the alleged drug ring may reach into other states.
