INDIANAPOLIS -- A free summer camp aimed at helping homeless children in central Indiana is in danger of closing.Interfaith Hospitality Network's budget took a nose dive, forcing organizers to reach out to the community for help, 6News' Stacia Matthews reported. The organization provides emergency shelter to families when they have nowhere else to go and free activities for their children, including extracurricular activities, tutoring and field trips."We get to go to the park, and on field trip day, we go on a field trip," said Chandler Leigh, one of about a dozen children currently enrolled in the summer camp. The camp's executive director, Shannon Glenn, said there are at least 90 families on the waiting list, but many children might not be able to participate because the program's state funding was cut in half."The kids have enjoyed so much that they may not have the opportunity to enjoy. The need is great, but the dollars are lean," Glenn said. "If we don't get funding, we can't help families we help on a daily basis. That would include the summer camp as well."IHN provides 30-day emergency shelter to roughly 200 families a year and is now asking for help from the public in order to continue helping those most in need.To make a donation to Interfaith Hospitality Network, click here.
