INDIANAPOLIS -- Indy's mayoral campaign is gearing up to take the airwaves. The Incumbent Republican candidate, Mayor Greg Ballard, and Democratic challenger Melina Kennedy will jump start the campaign season with TV ads.Although neither Kennedy’s or Ballard’s commercials are negative, many voters said the influx of commercials is frustrating and sometimes confusing.Kennedy's first commercial is an introduction about her. She tells voters she paid her way through Indiana University working as a waitress and is now a wife and mother of two who will always keep her commitments.“(We need) stronger schools (held) accountable so every child is reading at grade level by third grade, with students learning math, science, and technical skills for the jobs of the future. On schools, a can-do leader who believes failure is never an option," Kennedy said in the commercial.Kennedy emphasized schools, even though her first campaign presentations seemed to stress more crime-fighting, 6News' Norman Cox reported.Ballard's first commercial is a feel-good look back at his first term. He reminds voters that he was a Marine and he brought a commitment of hard work to face the city's many challenges."We brought fiscal responsibility. Your taxes are lower, we're building stronger neighborhoods and crime is going down. We've made a lot of progress, but we're not done yet. We are well on our way," Ballard’s commercial said.Ballard said that he plans on advertising from Aug. until Election Day in November.Representatives from Kennedy’s camp said she doesn't have as much money and would not commit to running a full slate of commercials.Kennedy’s commercials begin airing Thursday night while Ballard’s roll out on Friday.
