Woman Sentenced In Connection With Son's Death
Mother Pleaded Guilty To Neglect

ANDERSON, Ind. -- The mother of a disabled Elwood boy who was found dead after a house fire was sentenced Monday to nine years in prison on a neglect charge.
Jennifer Norris (pictured, left) pleaded guilty earlier this month to neglect of a
dependent resulting in serious bodily injury.Authorities said the boy, Mark A. Norris II, 8, was found dead after a
fire in January 2003 at the family's home in Elwood, about 45 miles
northeast of Indianapolis. An autopsy revealed that the boy had
died of pneumonia a day before the fire, and tests found evidence
that he was malnourished.
The boy (pictured, right), who had cerebral palsy and was confined to a
wheelchair, was a ward of the state.A social worker with the Division of Family and Children who was assigned to the case faces a felony neglect charge.
