Some Worry Towing Will Be Problem During Super Bowl
Department Of Code Enforcement Says It's Prepared

INDIANAPOLIS -- Parking will be at a premium on Super Bowl weekend, and some are worried that predatory towing practices will leave visitors with a bad taste in their mouth.A license hearing had been scheduled for Tuesday for Interstate Towing, also known as Delaware and South, but the hearing was postponed until March 9, well beyond the big game, RTV6's Tanya Spencer reported.Wryan Bailey, who lives downtown, said he's concerned towing companies will be looking to cash in on large crowds downtown."I know everybody's going to be looking to make money, so I'm sure the towing companies will be out there looking," Bailey said. The Indianapolis Department of Code Enforcement said towing regulations will be strongly enforced that weekend. An ordinance recently enacted requires clear signage and proper authorization before a vehicle can be towed.Adam Collins, of DCE, expects to have 36 inspectors out night and day on Super Bowl weekend. He said he doesn't believe Interstate Towing will break rules because the company already faces prospects of losing its license."Any other kind of further action that they take that would be considered predatory is just going to be another nail in their coffin," Collins said. "I'm sure they are going to be on their best behavior during that time frame."Code enforcement is also licensing parking lots and will have a map of all the licensed lots online by Jan. 27."If you don't see it on the map or you don't see the sticker we have that goes with it, I would be a little bit weary or cautious that the person who is there is just taking my money and not making any guarantees," Collins said.IWS Realty owns 10 lots that will be licensed. They are measuring the lots to see how many cars will fit and planning for charter buses."It's a company out of Chicago that is actually chartering people from all across the United States in," said Melissa Stephens, of IWS.There will be security at the lots, and all workers will wear badges with their licensing number.Officials urged visitors to look online for licensed lots before they leave. The Super Bowl Host Committee will be offering $2 shuttles, and IndyGo will be free for four days, from Thursday through game day.
