INDIANAPOLIS -- The snow was light Friday, but city officials were eager to prove that they are up to the task of clearing the city's streets with Super Bowl XLVI just three weeks away.Though just an inch and a half of snow fell in Indianapolis, temperatures in the teens and blowing snow challenged road crews. But it was a challenge the Indianapolis Department of Public Works and Indiana Department of Transportation appeared to meet.Road conditions early Friday morning downtown were generally clear. Interstate 65 near the downtown area was spotless.Indianapolis is very concerned about its image on a worldwide scale, and officials consider snow preparedness as an opportunity to either shine or embarrass the city on a world scale.Dallas took a lot of heat last year when a storm coated the city with ice, snarling travel before the game.DPW spokeswoman Kara Brooks said Indianapolis' plan went off without a hitch on Friday and that the city is prepared for a larger snow event."We have 24 snow trucks in the downtown area who will salt and plow the streets during the Super Bowl," Brooks said. "We tested this plan out. We're happy with it. We are not making any adjustments."But officials hope the weather holds off and the game and festivities leading up to it are uneventful, from a weather standpoint.Under Indianapolis' snow-removal plan, even some alleys will be cleared during Super Bowl festivities, with the expectation that they will have more traffic as visitors flow into the state.
