A mixture of freezing rain and sleet fell in the Indianapolis area, changing to some light snow before it ended. The Indiana Department of Transportation said more than 100 drivers were on the roads in the Indianapolis area.Road conditions were generally worse north of Indianapolis, where heavier snow fell in addition to a period of freezing rain and sleet. There were numerous crashes and slideoffs, but serious injuries were not reported in any of the crashes. The Indianapolis Department of Public Works said it had 90 drivers on the road and that they were moving to secondary streets."Our goal is to make the streets as safe as possible," said DPW spokeswoman Kara Brooks. "We encourage drivers to be careful, reduce their speed and allow ample time to arrive at their destination and give Indy Snow Force drivers plenty of room to salt and plow the streets."Sunny skies will return later Saturday, but the temperature is expected to stay below freezing. The snow and ice should melt on Sunday as temperatures jump into the mid-40s across the region.Temperatures are expected to stay a little above normal for most of next week, with periodic chances of rain or a rain/snow mix.
