INDIANAPOLIS -- From twisted ankles to the common cold and worse, Super Bowl fans will have easy access to medical care right downtown. The first-of-its-kind Super Care Clinic in Union Station is an advanced urgent care facility with three exam rooms and a lab, RTV6's Stacia Matthews reported.

For a small fee, patients can receive treatment for minor injuries and illnesses from personnel from area healthcare facilities."(We can treat) coughs, colds, flu-symptoms, any stomach ailment, nausea, vomiting, things like that, (and) minor trauma, lacerations, sprained ankles, sprained wrists," said Dr. Dan O'Donnell with Wishard Hospital. If doctors at the clinic write a prescription, the patients will pay for it but Marsh will deliver it to their hotel room for free.Taking a lesson from the Olympics, the concept is designed to keep emergency room beds available for true emergencies."We have four or five emergency departments within a 5-mile radius of downtown, and so our hope is that they have a very quiet Super Bowl week and weekend so that, in the event of something happening, heaven forbid a mass casualty associated with this concentration of visitors, that they could more readily accommodate those truly urgent needs," said Dr. Christopher Doehring with St. Francis Health. The clinic also includes a lactation area for nursing moms, which can be used for free. The facility opens Friday.
