High Schools Locked Down After Gun Report

Police: 19-Year-Old Showed Off Handgun In Class

POSTED: 12:51 pm EST January 27, 2012

High schools in Columbus were locked down Friday morning after reports of a student with a gun.

Officers were called to Columbus North High School about 9:30 a.m. after several students reported seeing a 19-year-old boy showing off a gun in welding class, police said.

The student attends Columbus East High School but is taken to Columbus North each day for the specialty shop class, so the district put both schools on lockdown.

When the student was located, he was not carrying the gun, police said. Officers were canvassing the area for the weapon Friday afternoon.

Police said no one was threatened with the gun.
