KOKOMO, Ind. -- A second person has died after a gunman terrorized Kokomo, targeting four random victims over two days, police said.

David Gibson, 64, who was the first person to be shot Wednesday night near downtown, died from his injuries Friday afternoon, police said.

The morning after Gibson was shot, officers were called to the same area, near Taylor Street and Apperson Way North, just before noon on a report of a man down near the Penny Saver.

Argena Williams, 48, had been shot in the head. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

About 10 minutes later, Miriam Mallory, 40, was found shot in the head about a block away, near Jackson and Purdum streets. Her condition was not released Friday.

About an hour after that shooting, officers were called back to the same area, where Ricky Patterson, 51, was also found shot in the head. His condition was also not released Friday.

Police said a lengthy manhunt and a tip from a witness led them to Turama Stitts, 36, who was arrested and preliminarily charged with one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder.

The Howard County Prosecutor's Office updated the charges Friday evening following Gibson's death to include two counts of murder.

Maj. Brian Seldon said Stitts acted alone, chose his victims at random and said the shootings did not appear to be related to drugs or any other criminal activity.

"The safe and close-knit community of Kokomo was shaken by the random violent acts of one individual. Unfortunately, the disregard for human life resulted in four individuals being tragically victimized," Seldon said. "The Kokomo Police Department expresses our deepest sympathy to all the victims and the victims’ families for the tragedy they have endured."

Stitts is expected to appear in court Monday.
