LEDYARD, CT. -- A Connecticut cat is alive after a harrowing ordeal inside a Federal Express box recently.
Juliana Lewis (pictured, left) said she was packing a box to return some furniture when one of her 12 cats -- Pip -- somehow slipped inside.
"The cats decided that would be a really fun place to play, being cats, and they were jumping in and out of the box," Lewis said. "I shut the box, looked around, saw Belle, saw Squeak, and sealed the box up."It wasn't until 24 hours after Lewis sent the box that she realized Pip -- one of three black and white cats in her home -- was missing."All of a sudden it hit me: 'Oh my God, he's in the box,'" Lewis said.Lewis immediately called Federal Express officials and told them she sealed up the box with her cat inside."I had a nervous day with a lot of prayers," Lewis said.
Federal Express officials traced the box to Indianapolis and found Pip inside. The cat had been in the box for two days.A Federal Express employee took Pip to his home and eventually to a veterinarian to get the proper papers to place the cat on a plane to be flown home and reunited with Lewis."He's gotten around. He's been in more states than I have," Lewis said.Federal Express does not allow or have a license to ship live animals.
