Public Invited To See Officer's Funeral Procession

The Indianapolis Police Department is inviting the public to watch a funeral procession for Officer Timothy "Jake" Laird, who was killed in a gun battle this week.

A funeral service for Laird is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at St. Luke United Methodist Church on the city's north side. Following the funeral, sometime after noon, a procession will leave the church for Crown Hill Cemetery, where Laird will be buried.

The following is the procession's route:

  • St. Luke United Methodist Church to Meridian Street, heading south.
  • Meridian to New York Street.
  • East on New York to Alabama Street.
  • South on Alabama Street, passing IPD headquarters and the Marion County Sheriff's Department, to Maryland Street.
  • East on Maryland and Washington Street to East Street.
  • South on East Street to Virginia Avenue.
  • South on Virginia to Shelby Street.
  • South on Shelby, passing IPD South District headquarters, to Raymond Street.
  • West on Raymond to Meridian Street
  • North on Meridian to the Illinois Street merge.
  • North on Illinois, through downtown, to 34th Street.
  • West on 34th Street to the entrance of Crown Hill Cemetery.

Laird will be buried in a section of Crown Hill Cemetery that is dedicated to local public servants who were killed on the job.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Crown Hill Funeral Home.

Laird, a four-year veteran of the force, was married with a 7-year-old daughter, Kaylee, for whom a trust fund has been established, the police department said.
