A suspect in the Dec. 24 disappearance of an Indianapolis girl told police he killed her and then told them where to find her body, authorities said Thursday.

The body of Christina Tedder, 12, was found early Thursday morning in a creek about four miles east of Geist Reservoir in northwestern Hancock County, police said.

Marion County sheriff's Capt. Phil Burton said Jeffrey A. Voss, 39, told detectives he abducted Tedder, strangled her, then abandoned her body in the creek.

"He was not remorseful at all," Burton said. "He just said, 'Get me a piece of paper and a pen. Also, get me a map, because she's in Hancock County.' He said it just that cold."

The body discovery came a day after police said they arrested Voss, described as an acquaintance of the girl's family, on a preliminary charge of murder in connection with the case.

Police said Voss confessed Wednesday night, after the arrest. Earlier Wednesday, as he was being led to jail in handcuffs, Voss told reporters that he "didn't hurt that little girl."

"I didn't do anything to her," he said.

Police said that shortly before the abduction Dec. 24, Voss -- a former neighbor of Tedder's family -- visited with Tedder's mother at her apartment, located on the 7000 block of East 10th Street.

Voss left the apartment, and shortly afterward, at about 8 p.m., Christina Tedder told her brother she was leaving the apartment to go to a nearby Shell gas station at 10th Street and Shadeland Avenue, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Police said they believe Voss kidnapped the girl at the gas station, handcuffed her and drove her to an east-side Indianapolis home that he was watching for friends who were on vacation, RTV6's Jack Rinehart reported.

Voss allegedly told police that while at the home, located on the 10500 block of Folsom Drive, he taped the girl's mouth shut with duct tape and strangled her with a vacuum cleaner's electrical cord, according to the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, Voss told police that he drove the girl's body to the Hancock County creek and dumped it there.

Burton said the body was found face-down in the creek, unclothed except for socks.

Police said they arrested Voss after receiving a tip from the public. Authorities said they found blood and hair evidence at the Folsom Drive home.

Tedder was a student at Stonybrook Middle School.

Voss was being held Thursday without opportunity for bail at the Marion County Jail.
