A Hamilton County child protective services investigator was charged Wednesday with molesting an autistic teenage boy who had been part of his caseload, RTV6's Derrik Thomas reported.

Authorties said Cory Heinzman, 36, allowed the boy -- now 14 -- to spend nights in his Hamilton County home. Heinzman is accused of molesting the boy there while they allegedly slept in the same bed.

Police said the molestation allegedly happened between August and March.

Heinzman (pictured, left), who conducted child abuse investigations for the county's child services division, was arrested Tuesday night. He faces two Class A felony counts and two Class C felony counts of child molestation.

Heinzman served as a mentor to the boy, treating him to meals and taking him to movies, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department said. His supervisors were not aware that Heinzman had been acting as the boy's mentor, authorities said.

"I can't fathom why a person would do what he is accused of doing," Sheriff Doug Carter said.

Heinzman passed a thorough background check before he was hired three years ago, state child protective services spokeswoman Susan Tielking said.

"Based on background checks that we did, we could not determine this behavior would have occurred," Tielking said.

Heinzman was released from jail on $120,000 bond. RTV6's attempts to reach him for comment Wednesday were not successful.
