Police were called to King and 10th Streets Wednesday evening, where they found Clarence Williams Jr., 43, shot several times inside C-Daddy's Bbq.
He later died at the hospital.Police went door-to-door Thursday, hoping to find any information that might help them determine who killed Williams. Police believe the shooter fled on a bicycle.Gov. Mitch Daniels and Williams became friends on the campaign trail in 2004 when Daniels visited the restaurant.Thursday, Daniels lamented the loss of a man he viewed as an inspiration, RTV6's Rafael Sanchez reported."We had a great meal and a great visit," Daniels said. "I'm just heartsick that this could happen. This was an anchor for the neighborhood. He was doing something more than just making a living. He was building a better community out there -- just exactly the kind of person we want to lift up and celebrate."Mayor Bart Peterson planned an address in the neighborhood for 2:30 p.m. Police were planning to beef up presence in the area all day.Neighbors erected a sign in honor of Williams across the street from his business Thursday. It read, "Rest in peace, Clarence. We need peace."Investigators said someone riding a bike had been robbing people in the neighborhood over the past few weeks.Police would not say if there was a connection between those incidents and this shooting. Investigators said Williams was robbed before being shot. It's the third time in three weeks, an Indianapolis businessman was killed at his place of business.Watch RTV6 for updates
