COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Two people in Columbus and three people in the Seymour area have been arrested and indicted on accusations that they were producing and selling fake identification cards to people living illegally in the U.S., federal authorities said.

Authorities said the operation allegedly run by the two in Columbus -- Dorillian Lopez Mendez and his brother, Alonso Lopez Mendez -- was separate from the operation in the Seymour area.

"These individuals were involved in the production of fake Social Security cards, fake resident alien cards ... and fake state identification cards," U.S. Attorney Susan Brooks said.

Police said the Lopez Mendez brothers made fake IDs with computer gear at a mobile home. Brooks said the brothers sold the fakes for $160 per set.

Authorities said the brothers sold the fake IDs mostly to people from Mexico who are living illegally in Columbus.

If convicted, each defendant could face up to 15 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine, RTV6's Ben Morriston reported.
