GREENWOOD, Ind. -- A central Indiana family has received a special gift. Samantha's House is finished. The Allen family of Greenwood finally got to see what the community has been working so hard to give them. The Allen family has been in need since the spring of 2003, when Samantha Allen's life was changed forever.
A car struck her as she crossed the street to her Greenwood home, leaving Samantha paralyzed, frightened and cramped in a home not suited for someone in her condition.Last week, the Allens put it all behind them. Just like on "Extreme Makeover Home Edition," people were ready to welcome Jerry and Priscilla Allen and their four children to a brand new home.
After two years of planning, CP Morgan Homes, Union Federal Bank and RTV6 have gotten behind the Samantha's House Foundation to give the family a handicapped accessible home mortgage-free.Ground was broken on the home in the summer. It was framed shortly thereafter. The buildup was intense as the Allens were about to be shown their new home.Samantha's House Foundation is headed by Jim Keller and Michael Hunt, whose own daughter was paralyzed in an amusement park accident. He knew he could help this family."With all the people who worked on this house, I couldn't be happier for the Allens. I just know this is going to make such an enormous difference in all their lives and that they will find a sense of normalcy as they move forward," Hunt said.RTV 6 will air a Samantha's House special Dec. 7.There is still time for people to help cover the costs involved with Samantha's House.Anyone can call 926-1111 to make a donation. Donations can also be made at Union Federal Bank, where an orange Samantha's House wristband can be purchased for $3.
