A fire heavily damaged a Wendy's restaurant on the city's northwest side Sunday.

The blaze caused extensive damage to both the exterior and interior of the restaurant. The fire broke out at about 6 a.m. at the Wendy's near 71st Street and Michigan Avenue.

Workers at another nearby business saw the flames and called the Pike Township Fire Department, RTV6's Jeremy Brilliant reported.

Investigators said a burner had apparently been left on overnight, sparking the blaze in the kitchen area. The fire also spread to the building's roof.

The restaurant was closed when the fire began. There were no injuries.

Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control within about 30 minutes. Damage was estimated at about $200,000.

The owner plans to rebuild on the same site. The restaurant underwent renovation just six months ago.
