Man Sentenced For Videotaping Stepdaughter In Shower

42-Year-Old Ordered To Serve Home Detention

POSTED: 4:47 pm EST February 10, 2006

An Indianapolis man convicted of using a hidden camera to record images of his 16-year-old stepdaughter in a shower at their home was sentenced Friday to one year of home detention.

Anthony Branam, 42, also was ordered to serve two years of probation and is not allowed to contact the teen.

Branam, who was arrested in May after a family member found the camera, was convicted of voyeurism, a class D felony. He was found not guilty of child exploitation.

Authorities said Branam hid a video camera inside a radio, which he placed on a shelf in a bathroom. Police said that when he knew the teen was in the shower, he went to his basement and activated a wireless receiver, which collected the camera's images and relayed them to a VCR.

Police said Branam used the VCR to record the images. Authorities said he had a few videotapes that included nude images of the teen.

Branam apologized in court.

"I can't emphasize enough the level of remorse and regret I feel," Branam said. "I betrayed the people who were closest to me."

A judge prohibited Branam from living within one mile of the teen and ordered him to enter a counseling program and perform 100 hours of community service.

Satellite technology will monitor Branam while he is on home detention, 6News' Derrik Thomas reported.
