IPD Officer Suspended After Pharmacy Arrest

POSTED: 2:49 pm EST February 24, 2006

The Indianapolis Police Department on Friday suspended an officer who was charged this week with altering a drug prescription.

An IPD merit board will consider whether to fire Officer Mark Kuykendall, who was arrested Monday at a CVS Pharmacy on the city's south side.

Kuykendall was arrested after a CVS worker alerted authorities to a Valium prescription the officer tried to fill, police said. A pharmacist believed the number of pills to be dispensed had been changed upward on the prescription, police said.

Kuykendall, who is suspended without pay, faces two felony charges in connection with the arrest. He has been with IPD for eight years.
