INDIANAPOLIS -- A Marion County special deputy fatally shot his wife in their Indianapolis apartment Friday afternoon and then turned himself in to Cumberland police and confessed, authorities said.Police said Ray Spradley confessed to shooting Nikki Henderson, 29, in their home at the Scarborough Lake Apartments on the city's northwest side.Authorities said Henderson's 7-year-old daughter may have witnessed the shooting. One way or the other, the girl learned of it and told a neighbor shortly before 5 p.m., and police were called, 6News' Jeremy Brilliant reported.

Officers entered the apartment and found Henderson's body.Police said Spradley, a part-time Marion County Sheriff's Department special deputy, turned himself in to police in Cumberland and said he had shot Henderson.Information on what led to the shooting wasn't available.Spradley and Henderson, who were wed four months ago, had a history of domestic violence, police said. Officers had been called to their residence on domestic violence reports six times in the past two years, police said.Spradley, 42, once had a restraining order against Henderson, and she was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery against him, police said.As a special deputy, Spradley worked security at the City-County Building, Brilliant reported.Spradley was being held Friday night on a preliminary charge of murder.
