MELBOURNE, Fla. -- The founder of Indiana-based used-car dealership J.D. Byrider was among three people killed when a twin-engine plane crashed Thursday morning in Melbourne, Fla., officials said.James DeVoe Sr., 62, was on the plane when it crashed, the Carmel company said. DeVoe's son-in-law, Steele Gudal, 42, and the pilot, whose name wasn't immediately available, also died in the wreck.The plane had left Jacksonville earlier in the morning and was making an approach at the Melbourne International Airport when it crashed near an industrial and office park, the Brevard County Sheriff's Office said. No one on the ground was injured.

The plane had been flying over a potential site for a new J.D. Byrider location, 6News' Tanya Spencer reported. Witnesses said the plane's engines apparently shut down and then the aircraft crashed into a parking lot behind a building. The crash ignited several small brush fires, which firefighters put out. Federal Aviation Administration officials arrived about two hours later to begin an investigation.DeVoe is survived by his wife, six children and 12 granchildren.
