LAWRENCE, Ind. -- Authorities locked down part of the Army's finance center in Lawrence Thursday afternoon after a worker suffered a rash, but tests found no evidence of hazardous materials, police said.Police said the woman's rash appeared after she opened an office-supply package at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service center at about 2 p.m. After she was taken to a hospital, medical personnel told the center that they didn't know what caused the condition. As a precaution, a hazardous materials crew was sent to check the package at about 5 p.m., and about 70 people were kept inside the DFAS building for about two hours while tests were run, police said.

Medical personnel eventually determined the woman suffered an allergic reaction, and she was treated at the hospital and released, 6News' Jeremy Brilliant reported. The 70 workers were released from the finance center after preliminary tests found nothing dangerous, police said. A more detailed test is expected to be performed, and the results will be sent to Homeland Security Department officials, Brilliant reported.During the hazardous materials scare, the hospital's emergency department was closed and quarantined for about 90 minutes, the hospital said. People needing emergency care were diverted to Community Hospital East.Information on what caused the woman's allergic reaction wasn't available.
