Alternate Sites For Governor's Residence Chosen
Decision On Whether To Move Will Be In November
INDIANAPOLIS -- The commission deciding the fate of the governor's residence has chosen five sites as alternate locations for the first family's home.
A desire for a larger, handicapped-accessible home has prompted a choice of either renovating the current residence or moving the governor to a new one.
At a meeting Thursday, the following sites were chosen as alternates to the current residence, which is at the intersection of 46th Street and Meridian Street:
Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park, on the city's east side.
Indiana Girls School, on the city's west side.
The St. Mauer monastery property on Michigan Road.
Campbell Mansion, on Cold Springs Road.
Fall Creek Place, between Meridian Street and Pennsylvania Street, just south of Fall Creek.
Also Thursday, the commission chose five architectural firms as finalists to either design a new home or renovate the current one.
Members of the commission will visit the five alternative sites in August, noting several criteria, including cost.
The members will choose one alternative site out of the five in September.
In November, the commission will choose either to renovate the current residence or have the governor move to the alternative site.
