INDIANAPOLIS -- All Bureau of Motor Vehicles offices opened a half-hour late Tuesday morning, and customers are being told to stay away because of continuing computer problems.A computer maintenance program that had not finished running caused Tuesday's delay. The BMV has had an onslaught of problems since a $32 million computer system upgrade over the Fourth of July weekend.
One of several persistent bugs in the new computer system involves reinstatement of driver's licenses.BMV officials said they expect the issues to be fixed soon, but work is moving slowly.Reinstatements are only being offered at the Virginia Street branch in Indianapolis until officials verify that the system works. The BMV also said online, telephone and self-service transactions are still not available, about a week after they were supposed to be working again.Watch 6News beginning First At 5:00 for continuing coverage.
