A community is still reeling and the investigation continues two days after the brutal stabbing and beating deaths of a woman and her stepson inside their home in a new subdivision in southern Johnson County.

Sean Dickus, 33, found his wife Chynna Dickus, 26, and son Blake Dickus, 10, dead when he arrived home shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday, police said.

Coroner David Lutz said Wednesday that Chynna Dickus died from multiple stab wounds and Blake Dickus died from blunt force trauma. Both victims had been repeatedly stabbed, 6News' Julie Pursley reported.

Investigators resumed their search Wednesday for clues that might lead to the capture of the person or persons involved in the slayings. Police also stepped up patrols in subdivisions surrounding U.S. 31 and Branigin Road, where the attack took place.

"It makes my wife real worried. She was scared to death last night," resident Freddy Sharpe said.

Police are releasing few additional details surrounding their investigation because they don't want to tip off the killer about what they know.

"Any of the interior or crime scene information is just not going to be discussed," Franklin Police Chief John Borges said.

Police have recently responded to several reports of home break-ins near where the woman and child were killed, but they aren't sure if there is a connection. On the day the bodies were found, a burglary was reported just up the street from the Dickus home.

Police asked anyone with information about the slayings to call Franklin police at 317-736-5111. Anonymous tips can be left at 317-346-1100 or at the Franklin police Web site.

Employees of NSK Inc., where Sean Dickus works, held a prayer vigil outside the home on Wednesday afternoon. Dickus offered words of comfort to attendees.

"It's hard to get up, but I start praying when I get up in the morning. I have a sense of peace that just comes over me and I know my wife and son are happy and they're not afraid or suffering at all," he said.

A memorial fund has been set up to help the Dickus family with funeral expenses. Donations can be made to any local National City Bank in care of the Dickus Family Trust Fund.
