Officer Injured In Motorcycle Crash

INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis police motorcycle officer is recovering following an accident Wednesday morning on the city's east side.Police said Officer Brian Chasteen was going east on Washington Street at about 9:40 a.m. when he hit the back of a woman's car. Police said the woman had cut across five lanes of traffic.IPD said the woman had darted across the road to get into a Salvation Army store. The woman told police she didn't see the officer at an intersection.
"People do not see motorcycles, even with their headlights on," said IPD Sgt. Ron Brezik. "We preach to our officers, 'Make sure you drive defensively,'" said IPD Sgt. Ron Brezik.Chasteen was taken to Methodist Hospital complaining of back pain. The other driver was not immediately cited. The accident is still under investigation.
