Group Donates Food To Good Samaritan's Mission

90-Year-Old Former Minister Feeds Hungry

POSTED: 6:15 pm EDT July 29, 2006

A former minister asked for help to feed the hungry, and his wish for more food was answered and multiplied by the hundreds, 6News reported.

Lucious Newsom asked the wish-granting group Never Too Late to help him with his mission. The group was able to combine donations from churches, corporations and volunteers to distribute more than 1,000 bags of groceries at the corner of Elder and West New York streets.

"My heart is overjoyed," Newsom said. "We never had this much food. Now they are going to have enough this week. No one is going to bed hungry."

Newsom, 90, plans to continue his daily mission of feeding people as far south as Martinsville.

"If you find a 90-year-old guy stronger than I, I want to meet him," he said.

Newsom's good acts even got the attention of Gov. Mitch Daniels.

"True compassion is (what) people did out of their own hearts and no one has a larger heart than this man."

Newsom also dedicated Anna's House, a place where youth can go to get educational help.
