Police Seek Person Of Interest In Woman's Death

POSTED: 5:23 pm EDT August 7, 2006

Police said Monday they were looking for a man they called a person of interest in the death of a woman whose body was found in a wooded area last week.

Authorities said they wanted to talk to Isiah Alvies, 17, in connection with the death of Debra Buchanan.

The body of Buchanan, 44, was found Thursday morning in the 3200 block of Richardt Avenue, not far from the apartment complex where she lived, police said.

Police said they believe Alvies was in possession of Buchanan's car shortly after her death.

Buchanan was one of 11 people slain or found slain in Indianapolis since Wednesday. The deaths prompted city officials to consider measures such as extending police patrol shifts by two hours, convening an evening drug court to expedite cases and leasing 200 jail beds to alleviate jail overcrowding.

Anyone with information about Alvies' whereabouts can call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
