Police said a woman who was previously convicted of murdering a former Evansville mayor now faces an attempted murder charge following an incident at Logansport State Hospital.

Investigators said Julie Van Orden, 62, a patient at the hospital, stabbed hospital employee Theodore Shriver, 54, on Thursday.

Van Orden was convicted of the 1980 murder of Evansville Mayor Russell Lloyd and was nearing the end of her sentence.

Investigators said Van Orden became upset after a verbal altercation with a female staff member, took out two knives and stabbed Shriver in the arm, face and upper torso.

Shriver was taken to Logansport Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for cuts and stab wounds. He was later released.

Van Orden is being held without bond at the Cass County Jail on the attempted murder charge.
